NFMCA Scholarship Program

The North Fort Myers Civic Association has announced their first annual Scholarship Program

The Scholarship Program is dedicated to Mark Lipton who passed away from a sudden illness in 2018. During his two and a half years living in Southwest Florida, Mark became a director of the North Fort Myers Civic Association, an officer of the Lee County Arts Center, and a member of both the Lehigh Acres and North Fort Myers Chambers of Commerce. He attended “Develop Lee” meetings, the Lehigh Acres Community Council, Planning and Zoning Board, and supported both the Lehigh Acres Senior Center and Community Services. Mark Lipton was an exceptional man. He was brilliant, kind and ethical. He was passionate about the law as a tool for justice, Mark is remembered as being very civic minded with a 45 year career as an attorney

The first recipient Makenna Brown who resides in North Fort Myers, Makenna’s application stood out for being very involved within her community, as well as top 10% of her graduating 2021 class. 4H President, she is a 4 H camp counselor, a Volunteer within her church as well as Junior Coach of NFM cheer team. Receiving multiple awards and participating in Varsity Track & field, a Varsity Cheerleader, AICE Classes, Varsity Track Jumping Captain and much more.

Makenna found that her hands are able to speak louder than her voice and she wants to share her gift with the world. She has been blessed with the gift of signing in National & Regional American Sign language soloist competitions; one of her favorite experiences was communicating with the hearing impaired at Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine. Makenna would like to pursue a career in the medical field working with pediatric patients that are hearing impaired. She will begin her journey at FGCU in hopes to transfer to UF to study pre-med.

The Second recipient Samuel Holmes who resides in Cape Coral, Samuel has maintained an extremely impressive 5.3 GPA while actively participating in school activities, volunteering and maintaining an after-school job. Samuel has shown the ability to excel and work hard while graduating with an AICE Diploma. Samuel is an active member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Interact Club, Beach Club and Captain of the Tennis Team. Samuel helps give lesions to other children at the Cape Coral yacht club. Samuel is passionate about the importance of one's actions on the environment. His diverse backgrounds in math’s, sciences and technology related classes gave Samuel a range of possibilities when exploring career options. After graduation Samuel will pursue a career in the STEM field at UCF.
